This off grid solar system at Millmerran was designed to provide reliable power for a modern rural household without relying on the electricity grid.
The system features a 7.5 kW solar array, two solar charge controllers, an 8 kW off grid inverter and a 65 kWh battery bank, providing enough capacity to run air conditioners along with the everyday appliances expected in a modern home.

Millmerran Off Grid Solar System
The system generates an average of approximately 33 kWh of electricity each day, supplying enough energy for a family home with efficient appliances.
It comfortably powers refrigeration, lighting, kitchen appliances, entertainment equipment, water pumps, a workshop and two air conditioners while continuing to recharge the battery bank during daylight hours.
Built in Two Stages
The installation was completed in two stages to suit the owners’ changing requirements.
- 3.5 kW installed in 2012
- Additional 4 kW installed in 2017
- Total solar capacity increased to 7.5 kW
This staged approach allowed the system to grow with the property’s energy requirements while making use of the existing infrastructure.

A Cost Effective Alternative to Grid Power
The property owners chose an off grid solar solution after receiving a quotation of $32,626 to connect mains electricity to the site.
By investing in a stand alone power system instead, they gained reliable electricity for their home while avoiding the significant cost of extending the electricity network.
The completed system delivers dependable year round power while remaining capable of supporting future energy requirements.
