Fully Off Grid in Moore, QLD A 6.6 kW AC Coupled Solar System Powering a Medium Sized Home
Moore is a small community in the Somerset Region of Southeast Queensland, surrounded by the kind of rural landscape where grid connection isn’t always straightforward or affordable. It’s also the location of one of our recent stand alone power system installations, a fully off grid AC coupled solar setup designed specifically for a medium sized family home, with the performance and storage capacity to run everything a modern household demands.

The Moore off grid solar system
This stand alone power system was custom designed and installed by Stand Alone Power Systems, featuring:
- Solar Array 6 kW of high efficiency solar panels
- Solar Inverter Fronius Gen24 5 kW inverter
- Inverter Charger 10 kW Victron inverter charger
- Battery Storage 18 kWh ecoPowerPlus Australian made lithium batteries, CEC listed
- System Type Fully off grid AC coupled stand alone power system
This is a system sized for real life, not a scaled down compromise, but a genuine whole home solution. Air conditioning, refrigeration, washing machines, entertainment systems and home office equipment can all be powered by the system.
AC coupled architecture
This Moore system is built on an AC coupled architecture, a design approach that pairs a dedicated solar inverter with a separate inverter charger to create a flexible off grid power system.
In simple terms, the Fronius Gen24 5 kW inverter converts the solar array’s DC output into AC power, which is then used directly by the household or fed into the Victron inverter charger to charge the battery bank. The two inverters work together, each handling a different part of the system.
AC coupling offers real advantages for a medium sized home. Solar energy harvested by the Fronius inverter can power household loads directly during daylight hours, reducing demand on the battery bank while the solar array is producing.
Fronius Gen24 5 kW inverter
The Fronius Gen24 manages the solar array and forms an important part of the AC coupled system.
In this Moore installation, it works alongside the Victron inverter charger to manage solar production and help keep the ecoPowerPlus battery bank charged.
The combination allows solar energy to be used directly by the household while also supporting battery charging when excess generation is available.

The 10 kW Victron inverter charger
The Victron inverter charger manages battery charging, power delivery and overall energy control within the stand alone system.
At 10 kW, it has been selected to support the electrical demands of a medium sized family home, including periods where several household appliances may be operating at the same time.
Working alongside the Fronius Gen24, the Victron manages stored energy and household demand while maintaining the off grid power supply.
Remote monitoring through the Victron platform also allows our team to review system performance and investigate many issues remotely.

18 kWh ecoPowerPlus lithium battery storage
The Moore system uses Australian made ecoPowerPlus lithium batteries to provide approximately 18 kWh of stored energy.
Each unit provides 4.7 kWh in a compact 2RU rack mount format, allowing substantial storage capacity to be installed within a relatively small equipment footprint.
The modular rack configuration also provides flexibility if additional battery capacity is required later.
The ecoPowerPlus batteries are CEC listed and use lithium iron phosphate chemistry with an integrated battery management system.
Battery storage designed for off grid use
Battery storage is one of the most important parts of any stand alone power system because it determines how much solar energy can be carried through into the evening, overnight and periods of lower solar production.
The ecoPowerPlus system uses a compact rack mount design that keeps the installation organised while allowing additional storage to be incorporated as energy requirements change.
Unlike traditional lead acid batteries, lithium iron phosphate batteries do not require water topping or the maintenance routines associated with flooded battery banks.
Solar generation for the Moore property
The roof mounted solar array provides the renewable generation that powers the home during the day and replenishes battery storage.
When solar production is available, household appliances can use that power directly while remaining generation can be directed towards charging the battery bank.
This balance between direct solar use and stored energy is central to the operation of the AC coupled system.

Why off grid makes sense in Moore and the Somerset Region
Moore sits in Queensland’s Somerset Region, roughly an hour northwest of Brisbane. Rural properties can face significant distances to existing grid infrastructure, which can make establishing a conventional electricity connection expensive.
For this Moore homeowner, a stand alone power system provided an alternative to relying on a conventional grid connection while allowing the property to generate and store its own electricity.
The system was designed around the property’s actual household demand rather than simply installing a predetermined solar and battery package.
Completely off grid
This home operates independently of the electricity grid. Everyday household loads including refrigeration, air conditioning, kitchen appliances, entertainment and other electrical equipment are supplied through the stand alone system.
A properly designed off grid system should make everyday power use feel straightforward. The homeowner should be able to use the property normally while the solar array, inverters and battery bank manage generation and stored energy behind the scenes.
Thinking about going off grid?
Stand Alone Power Systems designs and installs custom off grid solar systems across Queensland and Northern NSW.
Every property is different, so system design needs to consider household energy use, available solar generation, battery storage requirements, location and how the property will be used throughout the year.
Whether you’re in the Somerset Region, the Darling Downs, Southeast Queensland or further afield, we can help you understand what is required to build a stand alone power system around your property.
