Off Grid Solar Maintenance and Servicing in Queensland and Northern NSW
Most off grid systems do not fail suddenly. They decline slowly enough that nobody notices until the generator starts running more often than it used to. We service off grid solar systems across Queensland and Northern NSW, including systems installed by others.
A service can cover the battery bank, solar array, inverter, charge controller, wiring and enclosures, along with a review of the monitoring history where data logging is available.

Why Off Grid Systems Need Servicing
Batteries rarely fail overnight, connections do not corrode in a week, and array output does not halve suddenly. These things drift, and because the system keeps working through most of that drift, the decline usually goes unnoticed from inside the house until something forces the issue.
The cost of finding out late is the part people underestimate. Some battery banks, particularly lead acid systems, can suffer permanent capacity loss when left at a low or partial state of charge for extended periods. Where a manufacturer requires maintenance or operating records, missing documentation may also complicate a warranty assessment. Most of what we find on a service is cheap to correct at the point we find it and expensive to correct a year later.
What Happens When You Book A Service
Nothing gets booked until you know the scope and the cost.
Tell Us What You Have
Tell us where the property is, what equipment is installed and what changes you have noticed in the system's performance. If remote monitoring is available we may review the data before arranging the visit.
Scope And Cost Confirmed
We then confirm the proposed service scope, the expected cost and any travel requirements before the booking is made. If the inspection identifies separate repair or upgrade work, we explain the issue and quote that work before anything proceeds.
What An Off Grid Solar Service Covers
Depending on the system, equipment and site conditions, a service may include the following checks.
Battery Bank Inspection
We inspect terminal condition and connection torque, then assess the battery bank's state of health against its original specified capacity where that information is available. On lithium systems we review the available battery management data. On applicable lead acid systems we check electrolyte levels and specific gravity.
Solar Array Inspection
We check the physical condition of the panels, the mounting integrity, and any shading that has developed since installation as trees and vegetation have grown. We compare array output with the expected performance for the system, season and location, and cleaning is recommended where the panel condition or the measured output indicates it is warranted.
Inverter And Charge Controller Checks
We check operating temperatures, error and event history, firmware status, ventilation and enclosure condition. Charge controller performance in heat is one of the first things we look at on inland sites, since output can fall away on exactly the days the system should be at its best.
Wiring, Connections And Enclosures
We inspect the system for corrosion, heat damage, rodent damage and problems with enclosure sealing. Dust and vermin get into anything that is not properly sealed, and coastal salt air works on terminals and electronics steadily without showing much on the surface.
Monitoring And Performance Review
Where a system logs data we go back through the history rather than only looking at what it is doing today. Patterns in the data generally reveal a developing problem well before the hardware announces it.
Generator Integration
We review generator start settings and run hours, including whether the generator is doing more work than the original system design intended. Rising generator hours are often the earliest sign that a system is no longer keeping up with the property.
What You Receive After The Service
Once the inspection is complete we explain what we found, identify anything that needs attention, and separate the urgent work from maintenance that can be planned. Where an upgrade or a repair is recommended, you get the reason before you get the quote.

How Often An Off Grid System Should Be Serviced
It depends more on the site than on the system. Coastal properties and dusty inland sites generally need looking at more often than a sheltered block in the hinterland, and a working property with heavy seasonal loads is a different case from a cabin used a few weekends a year. Equipment still sits out in the weather whether or not anyone is home, so a lightly used property is not automatically a lower priority.
As a general position an annual check suits most permanently occupied properties, though we would rather set an interval that suits your site than sell you a schedule you do not need.

Servicing Systems We Did Not Install
We service systems installed by others, and the first visit generally takes longer because we are documenting what is there as well as checking it. It is not unusual for that first service to turn up design problems rather than maintenance ones, particularly on systems that were undersized when they went in. If that happens we will tell you what we found and what it would take to put right, and you can decide from there.
Off Grid Experience You Can Rely On
Stand Alone Power Systems has nearly two decades of experience designing, installing and supporting off grid systems. Founder and lead system designer Mark Wright has spent more than twenty years working with off grid power across rural Australia.
That experience covers maintaining established systems, investigating performance problems and supporting equipment installed by other providers. A number of the systems Mark has installed have now been operating for the better part of a decade.
“We have known Mark since 2016 when we first purchased our off-grid solar system. He provided excellent advice and was able to explain many technical aspects in simple laymans terms. Since 2016, Mark has upgraded our solar system with additional panels and batteries, and worked with us to optimise the best location for the panels. This was all done without fuss and with quality workmanship. Our solar system has been working very well over the past 9 years. Mark is an honest and reliable technician, and we can highly recommend his services.”

Support Between Services
Phone support is available between services, and many questions can be resolved without arranging another site visit. Where the system has remote monitoring we can review the data with you while we talk. You can read more about our telephone technical support.
Areas We Service
We work across Queensland and Northern NSW from our base in Warwick, covering the Southern Downs and Granite Belt, the Darling Downs and Western Downs, the Scenic Rim and Somerset regions, and Moreton Bay. We also travel further afield for larger jobs, so it is worth asking even if you are outside those areas. You can see systems we have installed across these regions in our project library.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Often Should An Off Grid Solar System Be Serviced?
An annual check suits many permanently occupied properties. Coastal locations, dusty inland sites and systems supporting heavy loads may need more frequent attention. The appropriate interval depends on the equipment, the environment and how the property is used.
Do You Service Systems You Did Not Install?
Yes. The first service takes longer because we document the system as we go, and it sometimes turns up design issues as well as maintenance ones.
What Does An Off Grid Solar Service Cost?
The cost depends on the system size, the equipment, the property location and the travel required. We confirm the expected service cost before the booking. If the inspection identifies repair or upgrade work, we explain what is needed and quote that work separately before proceeding.
Do Solar Panels Need Cleaning In Queensland?
Natural rainfall may remove some surface dust, though it does not always prevent dirt, debris or residue from affecting panels. Dusty inland sites and properties near unsealed roads may require more frequent cleaning. We assess panel condition alongside system output rather than relying on appearance alone.
How Do I Know If My Batteries Are Degrading?
Reduced overnight capacity and a generator that starts running more often are the usual signs. Monitoring data will generally show it well before you notice anything in the house.
Will Servicing Help With A Warranty Claim?
It may. Warranty requirements vary between manufacturers, though documented servicing and operating records can help show how the system has been maintained.
